2017 Ford Escape New RCM Module Programming with VCM2 IDS

Background:

If your Ford has code 19 from the airbag light that came on, which indicated the RCM (Restraints Control Module) went off and has to be replaced.  A new RCM and sensors must be installed whether or not the airbags have deployed. The new RCM has to be programmed with the vin and whatever else they do or the airbag system wont work properly.

How-to:

Use as-built method of programming since the body shop had already installed the new module. You can install new RCM by yourself as well.  (Refer to the service manual)

Model tested: Ford Escape yr2017. 2.5L Gasoline Automatic

Device to use: Ford VCM 2 with IDS software (here use V111.04)

Procedure:

Setup IDS software on laptop

Run IDS software

Establish communication

Turn ignition to ON position

Done.

The way to Backup and Restore a Corrupted Autel Maxisys

Has your Maxisys software ever been deleted or gotten corrupted? Here is what you need to know to get your MaxiSys back up and running.

1. If you have a current subscription…Run an update. 2. If your subscription has expired…Restore from backup. 3. Don’t have a backup…Renew the subscription.

Lesson learned…MAKE A BACKUP!

To summarize, copy and paste the SCAN folder from the Autel tablet to a flash drive (thumb drive, SD card, etc…) that is 32GB. WARNING: The Autel devices will not recognize a flash drive larger than 32GB.

Q&A Q: Which Autel tablets support this method of backup? A: All of Autel’s current Android-based tablets, including, all the MaxiSys 906, 908, Maxisys Elite, MS908P and even the Autel MX808.

Q: The video recommends a 32GB flash drive, can a larger one be used? A: No. The Autel tablets will not recognize a flash drive larger than 32GB.

Q: How do I restore the files from a backup? A: Copy the SCAN folder from the backup flash drive to the tablet.

Tips on TIS2000 disc for ECM updates

I used the tis 2000 disc for ecm updates.

TIS2000-CD-for-GM-TECH2

since the TIS200 has all the firmware needed for cars up to 2009, and does not need to connect to GM to pull them down. As for the 2010 to 2013 cars, need to have a working account with GM since it will need to pull these firmware files from GM over the web, since these needed files will not be part of the 3 discs that come with it.

Hence in 2010, GM switch over to web base programming from computer based Tis2000 , and was the end of the TIS 2000 having the needed files internal for the cars from that point forward.

So if you have a 2010 or later vet, then just get a $40 subscription to TDS SPS for 2 years, and the Tech II will be used in pass through mode for over the web programming instead .

Good to know: is it possible to make a new key to Opel with a Lonsdor K518 key programmer (when there is a working key or even all keys are lost)?

Where do icarscan reset the service intervals?

The ICarScan Launch software is not as intuitive as one would think. Where do you go in the menu to reset the service intervals? Do you know if it will reset brake pad warning? My pads are fine-if so, do you know where that reset is?

The brake pad warning is automatically reset when you have a working warning sensor. ONCE triggered the sensor MUST BE REPLACED to turn the light off. It is worn through by the brake rotor when the pad backing gets close to the rotor. Your pads may be fine – but if the light is on – at least one sensor isn’t. The sensors are usually replaced with pads – they’re difficult to remove intact once the pads have some heat/time on them, so replacement is considered SOP.

I’m not sure how intuitive you would think the software should be – I personally find it easier to use than the Durametric. The only annoying thing I find is the action of your phones (Android phones) back button is inconsistent. But that’s true for almost any Android app or website, so nothin
