Video-Surveillance System to Boost Traffic Decongestion Efforts on National Highways

In order to monitor and maintain ideal traffic conditions on national highways, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) will deploy video surveillance systems at national highway Toll plazas. Through this system, the NHAI will be able to reduce vehicular congestion at Toll booths. This system adds to the list of all measures taken by the NHAI in the recent years to curb traffic and develop road infrastructure.

Cameras to Help Curb Congestion at Toll Plazas on National Highways

The Indian National Highway network – second largest road network in the world – has been acting as a facilitator to trade and other socio-economic activities. Although the national highways constitute just two percent of all road networks (including State highways, district roads, and village roads), they support 40% of all trade happening across India. This means that the national highways are operating beyond their capacity, and often times this scenario would result in vehicular congestion at Toll plazas. So, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has decided to put in place special cameras at Toll Plazas to monitor traffic, which could relay traffic updates thus helping the managerial bodies to curb traffic snarls.

Surveillance Cameras at Toll Plazas to Help NHAI Check Vehicular Congestion

Due to the increased vehicular density in India, the roadways in India often got choked by the undesired congestion. Especially the national highways, which represent only 2 percent of all the roadways in India, carry a whopping amount of 40 percent of all the trade happening in the territorial limits of India and most often face the heat of congestion problems. NHAI Gets Issued With a Show Cause Notice by National Green Tribunal

The National Highways Authority of India recently got issued with a show cause notice by the National Green Tribunal asking why no salient action should be taken or initiated against it owing to the lack of maintenance of the mandatory green cover along the various national and state highways. This issue was notably raised by the bench headed by the Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal, Justice Jawad Rahim who sought out responses from the various officials of NHAI and even the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways aside from the government of Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan.

NHAI to Deploy Cameras at Toll Plazas for Real-Time Surveillance of Traffic Flow

With the impending problems encircling the traffic congestion at the toll plazas, it is the need of the hour to implement ways that would not just look into the issue but cater resolutions to the problems. Installation of Cameras by NHAI at Toll Plazas to Augment Smooth Traffic Flow

Traffic congestion at the toll booths is a very common occurrence which often times lead to causing hindrance to the normal traffic flow. In order to combat that issue, the National Highways Authority of India is soon going to administer and successfully implement video surveillance system for real-time mapping of the vehicle flow through the toll gates in the country. There has been no fixed date mentioned for the initiation of the scheme but the project is currently in progress and will be successfully implemented in the coming six months in 10 major toll plazas around the country. The organisation is also ensuring that they will extend the same to 200 toll plazas if the pilot run is successful in the first phase.

NHAI Drops Enchakkal Underpass Construction for Implementation of Better Plans

The National Highways Authority of India in a recently issued statement said that they are going to drop the construction of the Enchakkal underpass. The primary objective of this construction was to widen the stretch of the national highway from Kazhakoottam to Mukkola. The residents in the area were affected with the sudden change of plans but the same was replaced with delight when NHAI claimed that they are doing so just to construct a widened junction with a systematic traffic signal system at Enchakkal.

The locals in the area issued a protest in the beginning when National Highways Authority of India announced the construction of the vehicular underpass at Enchakkal. While many may think that the project was withdrawn owing to these issues, the same was not the case.
